By #1 Royals Fan
The Kansas City Royals have kicked off the 2011 MLB season. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim visited Kauffman Stadium for a 4 game series from March 31st to April 3rd to kick off the 2011 Kansas City Royals Season. It was a fun opening series and a successful one at that, with the Royals taking 3 out of 4 from the Angels. The Los Angeles Angels took the first game of the series, a 4-2 defeat at the hands of their ace, Jared Weaver. However, the Royals would storm back and take the next 3 ballgames.
Every game in the series was close and had some dramatic finishes. The second game of the series resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Royals. First basemen Kila Ka'aihue hit a walk-off home run on the second pitch in the 9th inning to decide the game. It was his first career walk-off home run. The third game of the series resulted in a 5-4 victory for the Kansas City Royals. The Royals scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th to rally to a victory. The final game of the series resulted in a 12-9 victory for the Kansas City Royals, in 13 innings. The Royals scored 2 runs in the botttom of the 9th to tie the game 9-9. In the 13th inning, Matt Treanor hit a 3-run walk off home run to lift the Royals for a 3rd straight win. All of their wins came in dramatic fashion over the Angels.
